Susan Tedeschi: Wait For Me
By
Listeners who preferred the rawer, rougher edge of Susan Tedeschi’s last release, Just Won’t Burn, might not enjoy her new record, but don't give up on her so fast. True, with success comes a new light shined on your work that demands you equal something you didn’t imagine would happen in the first place. Then again, Tedeschi’s approach on Wait For Me is the right one. Tedeschi doesn’t try and emulate verbatim the sound and feel of Just Won’t Burn, rather she bravely allows herself to mature and commit that vibe onto the compact disc. Her approach is more soulful, reminiscent of Robert Cray’s recent Take These Shoes Off. She tells her side of the story in her tune "The Feeling Music Brings."
While the edge has been dulled on one side of the blade, it has been sharpened on the other. Tedeschi enlists a variety of top notch musicians from all walks of life to contribute to her music, including her husband and guitarist extraordinaire, Derek Trucks. She puts more of an emphasis on songwriting and remaining true to the identity of the song, rather than using it as a show piece for her incredible voice.
Don’t give up on Tedeschi. She’s still the real deal, but she has matured and thus as an artist she must progress. Wait For Me examines the soulful side of music and does a damn good job of it.
