On the new episode of The Jazz Session, Jason Crane interviews drummer Pete Zimmer. Zimmer moved to New York several years ago after graduating from the New England Conservatory. He's released three records on his own label, Tippin' Records, the most recent of which is his new CD, Judgment (Tippin' Records, 2006). The album features tenor saxophonists George Garzone and Joel Frahm.
I love jazz because it swings.
I was first exposed to jazz in Houston.
I met Joe LoCascio and Bob Henschen.
The best show I ever attended was Pat Martino.
The first jazz record I bought was Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
My advice to new listeners is to relax on 2 and 4 beats.
