La presenza di due batterie e di due bassi (uno acustico e l'altro elettrico), la dovrebbe dire lunga sull'importanza della componente ritmica in Perpetuity. Ma l'indicazione è parzialmente e piacevolmente ingannevole perchè chi si aspettava una groviglio di ritmi, una giungla percussiva poderosa pronta a lanciare in orbita il virtuoso di turno rimane profondamente deluso.

Tant'è che "Nebulae" -il brano più lungo del CD con i suoi undici minuti abbondanti -è un'avvolgente, delicata escursione in atmosfere sognanti, sospese, dove tutto accade con estrema lentezza di movimenti e con la leggerezza dei sogni. Questo apparente paradosso svela pienamente il mistero nei rimanenti brani della registrazione.

L'ossatura ritmica tutt'altro che monolitica e metronomica è il reagente che stimola il dialogo tra il pianoforte di Phil Markowitz ed il violino di Zach Brock, ne suggerisce i movimenti, si insinua negli anfratti della loro conversazione stimolando nuovi flussi e nuovi pensieri. Così che Perpetuity è un susseguirsi di situazioni cangianti, nella quali una scrittura mai banale alterna momenti angolosi ed intricati con fragili melodie e dove il virtuosismo dei due solisti è abilmente camuffato dietro ricchezza di idee e misura di esecuzione.
