Sirius Quartet: Paths Become Lines
Un malese, un tedesco e due statunitensi compongono questo ragguardevole quartetto d'archi, di conformazione classica ma con precisi intenti di gestione totale della musica suonata. Tutti i brani compresi in questo CD sono infatti a firma dei membri dell'ensemble, a partire dalla titletrack, che lo apre, mettendo immediatamente in evidenza belle timbriche e relative dinamiche, vive, chiare, laddove il successivo "Ceili" assume un tono più composto e meno incentrato sulla coralità.

Si prosegue così, fra pizzicati e archettati, in "Racing Mind" (non solo qui, ovviamente), si direbbe non senza più o meno episodiche cadenze improvvisate, fino all'attacco, veemente, molto "contemporaneo," di "Spidey Falls!," con successivi giochi percussivi sulle casse degli strumenti.

Segue la suite che completa il lavoro (anche se non è ben chiaro se le ultime due tracce ne facciano parte oppure no: la grafica di copertina lo suggerirebbe, la precedente numerazione in numeri romani, poi abbandonata, e lo stesso svolgersi degli episodi, meno), a ribadire concetti già espressi nei brani d'apertura, fra momenti più quieti, compassati, e altri, fisiologicamente, più vivi, mossi, in una del resto ovvia alternanza di umori che il concetto stesso di suite si porta appresso.
