Tre musicisti quarantenni, chi più chi meno, di cui due norvegesi e uno statunitense (ma di chiare origini asiatiche), compongono questo singolare trio che, al di là dell'assenza della batteria, include un praticamente inedito sax mezzosoprano, intermedio fra contralto e soprano, teoricamente più prossimo al primo, in quanto ricurvo e in Fa, quindi un solo tono più acuto, laddove dal secondo (com'è noto in Si bemolle) lo separano due toni e mezzo, ma di fatto, per sonorità, più equiparabile a quest'ultimo.

Fatto questo minimo d'ordine, veniamo alla musica, che, a dispetto (o se preferite a complemento) del marchio prescelto di Organic Chamber (disco e gruppo), palesa da subito (gli iniziali "Breaking Bad" e "Cry of the Universe") vivacità e dinamiche piuttosto accese, oltre a un invidiabile equilibrio fra le tre voci, felicemente compenetrate e sufficientemente "pure." Il terreno è quello di uno sperimentalismo garbato, mai troppo spinto, se si esclude—dopo una terna di brani centrali condotti in maggior souplesse—un certo rumorismo in "No Agreements," titolo evidentemente programmatico e paradigmatico. Una sequenza di scale piuttosto insistita segna il successivo "Up to the High," alla lunga vagamente ipnotico, laddove il conclusivo "John & the F" recupera la vivezza inziale.

Disco di fruizione sostanzialmente gratificante, senza per questo mai scivolare nelle pastoie di una gradevolezza di facciata di questi tempi fin troppo diffusa.
