Sei brani raggruppati in due minisuite e altrettante composizioni sono i numeri di Open Window, ultima fatica discografica di Patrizia Scascitelli. Originaria di Roma ma da più di venticinque anni residente a New York, Scascitelli è l'ennesimo esempio di talento italico che trova conferme, apprezzamenti e opportunità di lavoro all'estero.

Open Window è una finestra aperta bidirezionale dalla quale la pianista e compositrice romana getta uno sguardo sul suo presente ma anche al passato e dalla quale chiunque può penetrare i segreti musicali ed emotivi che la musica contenuta propone a piene mani. Musica che nelle prime sei tracce ha un respiro orchestrale, ampio e ricco, con il suono che si apre a diverse dimensioni, le dinamiche che lavorano per piccole sezioni e si riuniscono gradualmente in un unicum pastoso ed omogeneo. Vi si ritrovano lo swing naturale del jazz newyorchese dell'ortodossia e le aperture alla musica europea ben presenti nel background della Scascitelli ed il risultato è piuttosto affascinante.

Le altre composizioni sono maggiormente connotate stilisticamente e funzionano come una sorta di bozzetti sonori autonomi. Tra le più interessanti "Baguelle," ispirato alla musica africana e vicina ad alcune cose del primo Abdullah Ibrahim, "Secret Blues" un blues atipico che suona come un boogaloo, e il conclusivo "Country Waltz," dal ritmo contagioso e con il sax soprano di Ada Rovatti in bella evidenza.

Disco ben suonato e ben arrangiato che piacerà agli amanti di un jazz elegante e raffinato.
