Jeff Holmes Quartet: Of One's Own
Of One's Own è un disco gradevole, che si ascolta con piacere grazie al riuscito mix di stili e agli ottimi interventi dei solisti (il clarinetto basso di Adam Kolker ed il basso elettrico di Cammack in Poinciana, o il sax soprano sempre di Kolker nel brano di John Abercrombie Labour Day). Nulla di più e nulla di meno.
La dolce e meditativa The Senses Delight ci porta in un clima che potrebbe andare bene, nostante lo swing sottile, in un disco prodotto da Manfred Eicher. Su tutto, il tocco rotondo del leader e pianista, che pervade l'intero disco. La sua scrittura sa pure essere originale, come nel brano One for C.J. dedicato al contrabbassista Chip Jackson, con il clarinetto basso in evidenza ed un assolo ricco di swing.
Il disco procede così, intrattendo l'ascoltatore con varietà da un brano all'altro, con un Adam Kolker, che mostra altrettanta versatilità, in bella evidenza.
