Eden Bareket Trio: Night
ByBareket's solos are dark, sonorous, slippery concoctions as they wind their rubbery way, banking tight corners and wide turns, while his sinewy rhythm section of bassist brother Or Bareket and drummer Felix Lecaros create a forceful, nocturnal magnetism around him. "Birds" opens Night with a honking fanfare, the trio immediately deploying the energetic and adventurous flexibility they've honed and finely tuned since Choice (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2016.) Credit "Baccatum" and "Night Creatures" as examples of Bareket's evolving sense of composition, sounding simultaneously like an all-out blowing session as well as thought-out structures.
Utilizing the sound of his keys as a percussive element, playing bass lines with his left hand and melodies with his right, Bareket continually draws us into his dusky explorations of his music and his instrument. An odd martial rhythm sustains "Escaping the Moment" like the run-out groove on an old vinyl recording. "Children's Play" is just that, skipping unerringly along.
Since his arrival in New York from Israel in 2013, Bareket has been gaining confidence and stature within the hot transience of the city's jazz realm. Night demonstrates why.
