The inaugural New York Japanese Jazz Festival will be launching June 25-27, 2019, as part of a three-day series heralding the undiscovered talents from the island on the other side of the world. Featuring a “who’s who” of American Jazz Greats, with a treasure trove of Jazz music’s future stars there will be something for everyone during this multi-day event that features three groups per night.

The New York Japanese Jazz Festival will take place for three nights at SMOKE Jazz Club, and will feature a number of musician’s representative of the East Coasts whose native roots are in the Japanese Culture. From NEA Jazz Master Lou Donaldson’s longtime organist Akiko Tsuruga and Roy Hargrove’s last pianist Tadataka Unno to newly discovered talents like 2018 Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition Winner & the Late Show with Stephen Colbert featured guest RINA and The Maguire Twins, there will be something for all fans across the jazz spectrum.

“I am very excited to have the such amazing artistry represented from the Japanese Nationals we have chosen for our festival.” says Festival Executive Director & Producer Vincent Herring. “In a world where everything has taken on an air of divisiveness is great to see that not only music, but Jazz specifically is still having positive cultural influences, and bridging gaps to bring us closer together.
