The Sony Holland Quintet returns to Jazz @ Vitello’s on May 6th. Sony’s debut appearance at Vitello’s earlier this year was a definite smash. “We had full house, an incredible band and excellent sound. That’s the kind of show every singer lives for. This time I’ve added a new blues tune written by my husband Jerry and a couple of surprises. I love the emotion the torch songs bring out, but we make sure to keep the set lively and swinging too. I want people to walk out of Vitello’s with a smile.”

About Sony Holland

Minnesota born Sony Holland is a performer with the talent and charisma that personifies the golden age of American music. As Richard Connema of Talking Broadway wrote, “Her calling cards are flawless phrasing, sultry tonality and bright energy. Her vocals shine on the slower and languorous ballads. She is the quintessential artist who keeps getting better and better...” Scott Yanow of the Los Angeles Jazz Scene adds, “One of the most talented jazz singers in town, Sony Holland has the potential to sing a wide variety of music and improvise creatively in every idiom. This continually evolving artist is well worth seeing live.”

Sony has performed in every situation from busking on the streets of San Francisco to some of the top venues and festivals across the U.S. and Asia. “It isn’t always easy but my passion for the music keeps me going,” she confides. “You need to earn the respect of the musicians or you’ll never get the sound you want.” She has emerged as a distinctive performer who exudes the confidence and charm that comes from knowing who she is, excelling at her craft and loving it!
