“Clinton is one of the most important musical figures in American history.” (The New Yorker) Celebrate 80 years of George Clinton (grew up in Plainfield, NJ), the “Godfather of Funk” behind Parliament and Funkadelic. One of the foremost innovators of ‘70s funk, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (by Prince himself!) in 1997, and received a much-deserved GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. NJPAC and special guests will hail the living legend who gave the world P-Funk, “Atomic Dog,” One Nation Under a Groove and Mothership Connection. With a career spanning five decades, three dozen albums and sweeping musical influence, George Clinton is a fearless creative mastermind who keeps on rocking. $39 and Up.

Leonard Bernstein composed some of the most memorable theater scores of his generation—West Side Story. Candide. On the Town—but who was the man behind the music? This edition of NJPAC’s Conversations in Concert, hosted by theater insider Ted Chapin, promises to be a thought-provoking evening of stories about the iconic composer-conductor complemented by Bernstein songs. Bernstein’s daughter, Jamie, will pull back the curtain of her father’s complex persona, sharing intimate moments and childhood memories from her book, Famous Father Girl: A Memoir of Growing Up Bernstein. Bill Charlap & the Bill Charlap Trio will perform Bernstein classics, including “America,” “Lucky To Be Me,” “Some Other Time,” “Glitter and be Gay,” “Somewhere,” and “Cool.” Bill, who lives in West Orange, NJ, is currently the Director of Jazz Studies at William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey. $59 and Up.

Diana Krall (vocals, piano)

Multiple GRAMMY Award-winning jazz pianist and world-renowned singer Diana Krall returns to NJPAC. The only jazz singer to have eight albums debut at the top of the Billboard Jazz Albums chart, Krall has garnered five GRAMMY Awards, eight Juno Awards and has earned nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums. Her unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable artists of our time. Her most recent release, This Dream Of You (Verve Records), has garnered critical acclaim from fans and press alike. Krall's unique artistry transcends any single musical style and has made her one of the most recognizable artists of our time. As The New York Times recently noted, she possesses “a voice at once cool and sultry, wielded with a rhythmic sophistication.” $49 and Up.
