These past nine days, I have greeted, high-fived, and shaken hands with thousands of our loyal patrons who have overwhelmed me with kind words, thanks, an exuding of beautiful happiness, and in some cases tears of joy. It gives me the greatest feeling of pride as your artistic director to have been able to finally deliver our long-awaited 19th festival.

Save the Date for the 20th Anniversary Edition June 23 to July 1, 2023

The 19th Edition CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival, one of the largest jazz festivals in the world, four times postponed because of the pandemic, wrapped up nine days of harmony and 325 shows June 25 with an all-time record-setting attendance of 210,000.

With 11 free headliner shows on two outdoor stages, a record 130 free shows and packed Club Pass shows nightly in 11 venues, jazz fans were back, with palpable enthusiasm and joy.

“The past two years have felt like two decades not being able to present this wonderful festival," said Marc Iacona, Producer and Executive Director. “Since the first note was played eight days ago, an overwhelming feeling of joy has resonated in my heart. I am grateful to everyone who attended all the shows and to our wonderful sponsors who have provided the opportunity for us to produce this event. A big musical hug to all of our club pass patrons who stuck in there with us, we love you very much! We are also appreciative of the grant that we received championed by Senator Schumer, which helped us make our free headliner shows possible. Once again this festival seems to have driven a positive economic impact for Rochester. As we always say… next June 2023, 'We’ll see you on jazz Street!'"

Producer and Artistic Director John Nugent said, “These past nine days, I have greeted, high-fived, and shaken hands with thousands of our loyal patrons who have overwhelmed me with kind words, thanks, an exuding of beautiful happiness, and in some cases tears of joy. It gives me the greatest feeling of pride as your artistic director to have been able to finally deliver our long-awaited 19th festival. Thank you to ALL the artists, patrons, crews, and our sponsors who provided us with the support so crucial to delivering such a large number of shows on many stages. We’ll see YOU on Jazz Street June 23-July 1, 2023 for our very special 20th Anniversary Edition of RIJF!!”

More than 1,750 musicians came from around the world to play. Musicians originally booked for the 2020 festival were given the first right of refusal to perform this year. For the first time, all headliner shows were free. Nightly Jam Sessions at the Hyatt Regency Rochester were packed. Hundreds attended the annual Jazz Workshops led by visiting musicians and sponsored by Wegmans. To open up Jazz Street the Festival moved the merchandise and hospitality tent to Parcel 5, making room for more seating and gathering.

The lineup for next year's 20th Anniversary Edition will be announced in March 2023.
