Pianist Mike Jones has released Chicago Trio 2010—his first new recording in five years. Recorded live in July at Chicago's legendary Green Mill Jazz Club during a rare break from Jones' appearances with Penn and Teller in Las Vegas, the full- length recording is available for unlimited free download exclusively at jonesjazz.com

Chicago Trio 2010 offers ample proof why Mike Jones has been hailed as the “great living Mainstream Monster of jazz piano" (Jeff Simon / The Buffalo News) with “the most remarkable pure technique of any pianist working in jazz today" (Neil Tesser). Joined by Chicagoans Larry Kohut on bass and Eric Montzka on drums, the performances reveal a new emotional depth and maturity in Jones' playing that may surprise even his long-time listeners. Reviewing a Green Mill performance, Chicago Tribune jazz critic Howard Reich noted, “there's more to Jones' pianism than his remarkable technical fluidity...Jones has tapped something important in his art...here was some of the most sensitive, understated, poetically inspired playing Jones has ever given Chicago."

With an outward appearance perhaps more appropriate for a member of Megadeth than someone who has “quietly established himself as the successor to the stupefyingly virtuostic Oscar Peterson" (Neil Tesser), Mike Jones has always followed his own internal musical path, eschewing the latest jazz flavor-of-the-month for immersion in the jazz piano tradition stretching from Fats Waller and Art Tatum to the two-fisted wizardry of his mentor, Dave McKenna. Since 2002 he has served as musical director and opening act (joined by Penn Jillette on bass) for the Penn and Teller show in Las Vegas. But despite playing to over 1.5 million people in recent years and recording a series of highly-regarded CDs for Hank O'Neal's Chiarascuro label, Jones remains to many, in the words of Green Mill owner Dave Jemilo, “the greatest pianist you never heard of." Chicago Trio 2010 is an up-to-the-moment document of true jazz virtuouso—a strong step towards Mike Jones being heard around the world.
