"Splish Splash" is Bobby Darin's pivotal 1958 party hit. The Bronx-born musician is best remembered as a crooner from the '50s and '60s. Made famous again by the 2004 film Beyond the Sea," starring Kevin Spacey. But when the jazz septet Waverly Seven dives into his music, Darin's big band beginnings are apparent.

About a year ago, these seven young New York-based jazz musicians formed Waverly Seven. They rehearse here in a townhouse on Waverly Place. For their first album, they're doing their version of Darin. Waverly Seven's new two-disc CD is called Yo Bobby."
Bobby Darin was also an actor, seen in such films as the 1962 musical State Fair." But even without a renewed interest sparked by the recent biopic, Darin's biggest hits are still well known - Beyond the Sea," Splish Splash," Dream Lover" and Mack the Knife."
But Waverly Seven explores the many facets of Bobby Darin's music and injects some of its own style as well.
