They Died Before 40, a new jazz film with licensing concerns needs help from the jazz community. In order for the film to be shown publicly all photographs and music must be licensed. There are over 600 photographs and graphic images in the film. It has been determined that about 100 are in the public domain and need not be licensed. In order to determine which of the others are in the public domain the jazz community can help. Those with knowledge of this area could provide important help in lessening the cost of research and license costs.

We have photos of Fats Waller, Chick Webb, Charlie Christian, Jimmy Blanton, Bunny Berigan, Clifford Brown, Chu Berry, and Herschel Evans to name a few.

Anyone with suggestions and references to others can contact the filmmaker, Howard Fischer at 212-864-1479 or through All About Jazz.

Please see the website for more information.

Thank you!
Howard Fischer
