March Jazz at Charlie O's

March jazz performances a birthday celebration for Bill Henderson on the 27th and a birthday celebration for Madeline Vergari Neumann on the 16th.

The official release of Brandinos Melodies and Songbook and the Brandino and Friends Live at Charlie Os CD (if you purchased the original CD, please bring it back and you will receive the new CD with additional tracks).

The return of the Skipper and his Crew on the 8th, the great Ernie Watts will be here on the 20th, and the long awaiting return of New Yorks own Joe Magnarelli on the 28th together with all of the finest jazz musicians in Los Angeles.

Mondays in March will be the last full month of big band performances. These big bands are Med Florys Supersax on the 2nd, the Bill Holman Big Band on the 9th, the Roger Neumann Rather Large Band featuring Madeline Vergari on the 16th (well celebrate Madelines birthday this night), the Scott Whitfield Jazz Orchestra West on the 23rd, and the Frank Capp Juggernaut Big Band on the 30th.

There is a $20 cash cover charge every Monday except for the 23rd. The cover charge on March 23rd will be $10. The cover charge is good for the entire evening. Reservations required for big band nights.

Our Friday and Saturday line ups always feature outstanding guests and they perform with the John Heard Trio (John Heard (www.heardworks.com), bass; Roy McCurdy, drums, Jon Mayer, Lanny Hartley, Theo Saunders or Tateng Katindig, piano.

Our phenomenal lineup of guests this month include the illustrious Red Holloway on the 6th and 7th, Charles Owens on the 13th, Doug Webb on the 14th, the one and only Ernie Watts on the 20th, splendid Plas Johnson (www.plasjohnson.com) on the 21st, the warm and wonderful Bill Henderson celebrating his 83rd birthday on the 27th, and Joe Magnarelli on the 28th. Reservations are highly recommended for all Friday and Saturday performances.

The remarkable Sunday line-up for March is the Joe Bagg Trio on the1st, the Henry Franklin Quartet featuring Azar Lawrence on the 8th, the Luther Hughes Cannonball Coltrane Project on the 15th, the John Proulx Trio (John, Chuck Berghofer, Steve Schaeffer) on the 22nd, and the Benn Clatworthy Quartet on the 29th.

Our Tuesday performances include the Julie Kelly Quartet with Theo Saunders on the 3rd, the Lorca Hart Trio (Lorca, Josh Nelson, Hamilton Price) on the 10th, the Chuck Berghofer Midnight Jazz Band on the 17th, the Don and April Williams Quintet on the 24th featuring Tom Ranier, Chuck Berghofer and Gary Foster and the Ron Levy's Wild Kingdom Quarter on the 31st. Please make reservations for these Tuesday performances. Roger Neumann Quartet featuring Howard Alden on the 4th, the Jack Sheldon California Cool Quartet on the 11th and 25th, and the Brandinos Melodies & Songbook Official Release Party and the re-release of their CD Live at Charlie Os on the 18th featuring Brandino & Friends (Brandino, John Beasley, Keith Fiddmont, Kenny Elloitt) (www.brandino.com). The Thursday line-up features the always popular Emil Richards/Joe Porcaro Quartet (Emil, vibes, Joe, drums, Mike Lang, piano, Bruce Lett, bass) on the 5th, Denise Donatelli returns with the Bill Cunliffe Trio on the 12th, Janis Mann is here with the Jeff Colella Trio on the 19th, and Pete Christlieb is here with the Jon Mayer Trio on the 16th.

Reservations highly recommended for these Thursday performances. We are located at 13725 Victory Blvd. in Van Nuys (on Victory, just West of Woodman Avenue). Jo-Ann, Mike, Matt, Caryl, Teesee, Naomi and Nicole (yes, folks, Nicole is back on Sunday nights) all look forward to seeing you in March at Charlie Os.
