Jazz Empowers, a national nonprofit organization that supports jazz programs in underserved schools, is celebrating Mardi Gras with a Virtual Mardi Gras Jazz Festival.

The jazz festival will include an exclusive performance from Jazz Empowers instructor Ricky Sebastian and his Carnival Time Band featuring Derek Douget on Tenor Saxophone, Ashlin Parker on trumpet, Don Vappie on guitar/vocals, and Richard Moten on bass.

The festival will also include performances and testimonials from Jazz Empowers students, and a short live auction with the chance to win a trip to New Orleans (post COVID-19).

All proceeds from the event will go towards supporting the 1400 students in Jazz Empowers' programs.

“After a difficult 12 months for everyone, we are beyond excited to celebrate Mardi Gras with inspirational student performances, insightful student testimonials and amazing New Orleans jazz," says Jazz Empowers Founder and Executive Director Andrew Johnston. “The celebratory and community aspect of Mardi Gras and New Orleans is something we can all use right now."

The festival's “pay as you can" ticketing allows you to attend the festival's livestream for free, with a donation, or for just $50 you can receive a VIP pre-show feature with a Mardi Gras cooking and cocktail class.
