Q: How and when did Gourmet Duo Plus form?

A: Gourmet Duo Plus is the extension of the musical group Gourmet Duo. Gourmet Duo was founded in 2010 by pianist and singer Yvetta Uustalu and bassist Tõnis Tüür.

Q: What inspired the group's name and why did it change from Gourmet Duo to Gourmet Duo Plus?

A: When the name Gourmet Duo was inspired from delicious food in the gourmet restaurant – so our music must be as good as top gourmet food – fine, selected and very tasteful, then. Gourmet Duo Plus is just Gourmet Duo with additional members on sax and drums. The new members are Marko Mägi on soprano saxophone and Indrek Tetsmann on drums.

Q: How would you feel the band's sound has evolved since its inception?

A: Our sound is more deeper now and of course richer with different timbers and rhythms. New members inspire us to play differently and it’s really big pleasure to play together with such a good and creative musicians.

Q: What made you decide to release a live record?

A: The magic of Gourmet Duo Plus is in their live performances, where the emotion and result emerge on spot, depending on the specific moment and environment. This is how their new improvisational and harmonious solutions appear, but the main reason maybe was quite a good concert recording from Tallinn International's jazz festival Jazzkaar. Gourmet Duo Plus gave a concert at Jazzkaar’s Autumn Jazz festival in 2011 at the restaurant Merineitsi in hotel Viru, Tallinn. The concert was recorded by Estonian Public Broadcasting and distributed to other EBU (European Broadcasting Union) radio stations, and it was broadcast on Estonian classical music station Klassikaraadio.

The performance took place in a relaxed jazz club atmosphere together with a three-course gourmet dinner – this is why a careful listener can hear sounds of tableware in the background to the music.

Q: How would you describe the jazz scene in Estonia?

A: Jazzkaar is the biggest jazz festival in the Baltics held since 1990. In 2014 the festival celebrates its 25th birthday and that’s the reason why Gourmet Duo Plus decided to come out with the same festival live recording on 2CDs. Combining an interesting and unique program with bold solutions, Jazzkaar’s team is able to create the best festival with the smallest budget in the Nordic countries, bringing the biggest and most interesting findings of the world’s jazz scene to Tallinn and Estonia. The ten-day festival has also the biggest number of concerts per year in Estonia with more than 3,000 performers from 60 countries.

Q: How did it feel performing at the International Vocal Jazz Festival in Moscow? How did they discover the band?

A: The feeling was great there. Full hall, competent audience, huge applause, standing ovations, etc.
