Playing Records is proud to announce a new collaboration with jazz musicians George Kahn, Alex Acuña and Lyman Medeiros to produce and release videos and recordings as The George Kahn Trio. The album project is being crowd-funded with a Kickstarter campaign that continues through August 8, 2017. The project will include six new straight-ahead compositions, and six arrangements of contemporary pop tunes (think Prince, Ed Sheeran, Adele, The Weeknd) performed by the trio.

The album (working title: The Bar Is Open) will be George Kahn’s ninth release since 1998 and his first in the traditional piano trio format. The project follows the successful Jazz & Blues Revue project of 2014 which raised over $20,000 on Kickstarter.

Once again George and his band are using Kickstarter to complete the funding of the project.

Four songs, complete with videos, were completed in April 2017, and the final album will include these recordings plus eight more tunes. Furthermore, people who pledge on Kickstarter before August 8 have the ability to enhance their purchase with lots of fun bonus items including an intimate house concert on August 6, or a visit to the live recording session in the fall of 2017. The final project is scheduled to be released in 2018.

“I like to think of the jazz piano trio as the 'gateway drug' into jazz." says George Kahn, pianist and President of Playing Records. “Think Ramsey Lewis, Vince Guaraldi, Bill Evans... The jazz piano trio is the essence of jazz chamber music, like the string quartet is to classical music. The interaction is pure and honest, and playing with great musicians like Alex Acuña and Lyman Medeiros brings a level of music excellence that is captivating. The joy is contagious, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

The George Kahn Trio album is the highly anticipated successor to one of George’s best selling albums Cover Up! In similar fashion, this album consists of six compositions written by George in tribute to other great pianists (Bill Evans, Red Garland, Wynton Kelly, Dave Brubeck, Roger Kellaway) and six current pop songs performed in original arrangements. Unlike Cover Up! which featured songs by the Beatles, Cream, Pink Floyd and other '60s and '70s artists, the new album focuses on more contemporary fare (think Prince, Ed Sheeran, Adele, The Weeknd…)
