Jazz Clinic and Concert Series at Long Island University Brooklyn Campus

Dr. Michael Rossi, woodwind specialist and Associate Professor in the South African College of Music at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, will lead a jazz seminar on South African Music as part of Long Island University's Jazz Clinic Series.

The series features musicians and music professionals with extraordinary links to jazz history in addition to being outstanding in their own right.

The clinics are FREE and OPEN to the general public. They take place on various Tuesdays, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, in room H-106 of the Humanities Building on Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus.

The campus is located at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and Dekalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. It is accessible to all major bus and subway routes and Long Island Railroad.

Dr. Rossi regularly performs at jazz festivals and conducts workshops and master-classes in South Africa, Europe and the United States. Some of his performing and recording credits include appearances with David Liebman, Clark Terry, Joe Williams, Tony Bennett, George Russell, John Fedchock, Bill Watrous, Aretha Franklin, Rosemary Clooney, The Artie Shaw Orchestra and Alec Dankworth.

Dr. Michael Rossi, from August 1999 - June 2000, served as acting Director of the Centre for Jazz and Popular Music at the University of Natal, Durban (UND) in South Africa as a Senior Fulbright Scholar in Jazz.

The Brooklyn Campus music department offers programs leading to a B.A. in Traditional Music Studies, a B.F.A. degree in Jazz Studies and a B.S. in Music Education in Urban Schools. For further information about the clinics or the music department, call Professor Robert Aquino at (718) 488-1668



Spring 2007 Clinic and Concert Series

Each semester the Music Department presents its Clinic and Concert Series. Clinicians have included Billy Taylor, Slide Hampton, Tito Puente, Joe Henderson and Jimmy Heath. Also, each semester student ensembles have an opportunity to perform.
