About this week's ensemble:
(guitar, piano & cello) Dom Minasi (electric guitar) and Tomas Ulrich (cello) have played together extensively. They are just returning from a recording session for CIMP. David Arner (piano) joins this duo for the 1st time. Arner, who rarely performs with guitarists, heard Dom Minasi in a duo with pianist Michael Jefry Stevens in performance in the New Directions in Jazz series, which Arner curated, 3 years ago. He decided then he wanted to play with Dom some day. Dom Minasi has just released his newest recording, The Vampire's Revenge. This is a double-disc CD which features Dom Minasi on 6 & 12 string guitars, Ken Filiano on bass/electronics, Jackson Krall on drums, Perry Robinson on clarinet, Joe Giardullo on soprano sax, Jason Kao Hwang on violin, Tomas Ulrich on cello, Joe McPhee on tenor sax, Sabir Mateen on tenor sax, John Gunther on reeds, Ras Moshe on reeds, Blaise Siwula on alto sax, Mark Whitecage on alto sax, Paul Smoker on flugelhorn, Herb Robertson on trumpet, Steve Swell on trombone, Francois Grillot on bass, Borah Bergman on piano, Matthew Shipp on piano, Carol Mennie on vocals, Peter Ratray as narrator and Byron Olson, conductor.

Over his long career, Dom has worked with countless heavyweights, crossing all styles of Jazz. He's performed in venues including major jazz clubs, Carnegie Hall, and the White House for President Bill Clinton. But it's musical expansion and personal growth that are his principal motivations. “ It's all about expression and growth. Making ones dreams come true in a musical way," says Dom. And in true keeping with the most fundamental aspect of the great jazz tradition, Dom Minasi continues to explore and discover new ideas in pursuit of his true and most personal musical vision.

Cellist-composer Tomas Ulrich received music degrees from Boston University and the Manhattan School of Music. Mr. Ulrich has performed and recorded with such artists as Anthony Davis, Joe Lovano, Gerry Hemingway, Derek Bailey, Anthony Braxton, Simon Shaheen, Herb Robertson, Dominic Duval, Ben Allison,Ted Nash, Uri Caine, Dave Douglas, Perry Robinson, Mark Feldman, Jason Hwang, Gregor Huebner and Ivo Perelman. He is also a member of the Diller- Quaile String Quartet which premiered his Quintet for Trumpet and Strings (featuring guest soloist Herb Robertson) in May of 1996. JAZZ NOW has characterized him as “the total package...incredible chops, great imagination, and superb pitch. He fulfills the roles of bassist, guitarist and additional horn player and is endlessly talented and creative." Tomas has written music for theater and film and has concertized in Europe, Japan, South America, Canada and throughout the United States. Mr. Ulrich can be heard on over 50 CDs in a wide variety of musical styles and settings.

Pianist David Arner has been described by Cadence Magazine (regarding his solo album, Live from the Center) as having “hurricane strength... He is a demonstrative player," says Cadence, “The performance was captured live and is an instantly-composed example of an artist baring his soul... He gives the impression of being an extremely deep thinker who projects his vibrant emotions in surges of energy offset by a retreat into an inner world of pensive solitude. Inspiration comes in waves of light...
