David Bromberg
Recently nominated for his first-ever Grammy Award, DAVID BROMBERG brilliantly blends folk, blues, rock, jazz, country and more. Expect the indefinable, as the DAVID BROMBERG BIG BAND REUNION performs at Glenside's Keswick Theatre on Sat., Feb. 23 @ 8 PM.

BROMBERG's internationally hugely-acclaimed 2007 release, Try Me One More Time, is his first new CD in 17 years and earned a Grammy nod for Best Traditional Folk Album. Celebrated by roots music fans, the album recalls the acoustic folk and blues music of Bromberg's early Greenwich Village folk scene days of the mid-'60s and is an intimate, confident recording by an artist who has nothing to prove. Rolling Stone magazine declared, “The fluid, orchestral invention of Bromberg's fingerpicking...is in undiminished bloom, invigorating sturdy old blues and ballads by Robert Johnson, Reverend Gary Davis and Elizabeth Cotton, among others."

The quintessential musician's musician, BROMBERG's exceptional stylistic range and extraordinary guitar picking led to his recording with Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Tom Paxton, Chubby Checker and Jerry Jeff Walker. Lending his vast skills to these and countless others, Bromberg has performed as a sideman on over 100 albums.

Born in Philadelphia, BROMBERG began his solo career in 1970, with a remarkable musical diversity and innovative resourcefulness that earned him vast critical and popular acclaim. One critic wrote, “David Bromberg fits no pigeonholes. He is part of everything contemporarily musical. He is a product of blues, country, jazz, folk and classical music. From his early success as a guitar virtuoso, Mr. Bromberg has developed into a brilliant entertainer."

BROMBERG's inviting, relaxed and humorous style lends itself to a give-and-take with audiences that's complete, spontaneous, and totally sincere. The New York Times noted, “He has such control of his audience that he can, at one moment, hold it in his hand with a tender, touching yet funny anecdotal song, and then set it romping and stomping with a raucous bit of raunch. He is electrifying."

Opening for Bromberg is ANGEL BAND, a project that evolved out of weekly jam sessions at a small caf in Wilmington, DE. These jams were Bromberg's brainchild: an effort to bring live, creative music back to a downtown that was once thriving musically. Singer NANCY JOSEPHSON, Bromberg's wife, joined these jams occasionally and eventually sought to build a more permanent band. With several self-penned tunes and an ever-growing repertoire, Angel Band released Beautiful Noise and is working on the much-anticipated follow-up CD that they hope to release this year.
