It’s hard to remember a time when pianist, arranger, composer and educator Dave Posmontier wasn’t a vital part of the Philadelphia jazz landscape. He’s been at it for almost 40 years, first hitting the area scene in a big way via an organ trio with drummer Mickey Roker and saxophonist Bootsie Barnes. Still recalled fondly in these parts and beyond was the ground-breaking group he began co-leading with brother Rich in 1980: The Postmontier Brothers Quintet played concerts, the best clubs, recorded an acclaimed album of original music, and were all over the radio. Postmontier has never ceased evolving or creating. He’s appeared in concerts and on recordings with John Swana, Grover Washington, Jr.; James Moody, David "Fathead" Newman, toured internationally with his own Klingon Klezmer ensemble, and has of late become increasingly involved in music education. Since the early 1990s, he’s been on the roster of artists of Musicopia, the pioneering music-ed nonprofit, and performs in clinics and educational concerts with, among others, violinist John Blake and percussionist Leon Jordan, Jr..
