Club Land Climbs the Jazz Week Bandwagon with JazzBoston

A core ingredient in every Jazz Week is participation from the hospitality constituency and with each passing year this participation reaches ever further into the Boston Metro area from the New Hampshire border to Rhode Island and west to the edge of Route 495.

Below you'll find just a small sample of many events to convey a sense of the array of places and styles.

Scullers has its own centerpiece special event on May 2nd but there are all manner of chances to experience Jazz in a hospitality setting throughout the week.

David Maxwell has amassed an enormous resume throughout the years playing piano with some of the greatest and well- known musicians in the blues. He plays many styles of blues, jazz and improvised music, but he is best known for his soulful virtuosity and unmatched ability to reach the heart of post-war Chicago Blues. Through his work, he has gained the respect of artists, critics and fans and has established a reputation as one of the finest blues pianists alive.

Vocalist Patricia Adams enlivens Ryles Jazz Brunch on the first Sunday of each month with Ray Santisi on piano, Dave Zox ,bass and Gary Johnson on drums playing to standing room only, singing and swinging jazz and blues standards from Tin Pan Alley and the Harlem renaissance. The Monte Carlo Jazz Ensemble plays jazz and hot dance musical arrangements following the model of exciting bands of the Roaring Twenties like the Dixie Syncopators, the Red Hot Peppers, and the Cotton Pickers. The musicians are Bob MacInnis, cornet and flugelhorn, John Clark and Craig Ball clarinet and saxophones, Al Bernard tuba, Billy Reynolds drums, and Robin Verdier/leader piano. Robin Verdier is one of the area's premiere ragtime pianists, and a devotee of Jelly Roll Morton's music and style. Annette Philip Quintet. With an ever-evolving sound, the Annette Philip Quintet seeks to collectively explore the music and ideologies of different countries, traditions, and cultures from around the globe. From Indian and Middle Eastern influences to jazz, funk, and Latin elements, each musician brings a different perspective, constantly adding to the quintet's collective soundscape. Join us for an evening of story-telling, exploration and introspection.

Bjorn Wennas/Carmen Marsico Quintet Fresh from recording their new CD in New York City, the group, led by guitarist/composer Bjorn Wennas and vocalist/composer Carmen Marsico, will perform material as diverse as U2, Tears for Fears, Cole Porter, Jobim, 16th & 19th Century Neapolitan songs as well as original compositions by the couple. How does that sound? Surprisingly cohesive. The instrumentation and artistic direction of the group gives all of these diverse influences one unique sound.
