Moorestown, NJ--Who ever dreamed that an unknown kid from Phoenix would make it to the top of the R&R Smooth Jazz Chart? In an industry that is fragile and changing, new blood comes and goes rather quickly...enter in nuGroove with the release of Jay Soto's Stay Awhile CD.

Soto signed with nuGroove in 2007 and released Stay Awhile on March 29, 2007. Unpredictably, the “Slammin'" single rose #2 on the chart by the fall of 2007 to the resounding sound of critical acclaim and remained in the Top 30 for 42 weeks. “[Stay Awhile]....glimmers of a star-in-the-making...," said Brian Soergel, Jazz Times."

“Discovering new talent is at the heart of what we do at nuGroove. It has been incredibly thrilling and an absolute honor to watch Jay Soto grow as an artist. His music speaks to contemporary jazz audience that is hungry for fresh ideas and music that has a unique voice," said David Chackler, nuGroove co-founder.

In the wake of all the attention, the laidback guitarist is quick to credit nuGroove for the album's success. “It has been an exciting ride to release Stay Awhile with nuGroove. David Chackler and everyone at the label have been phenomenal. Working with a group of folks with so many artists on the rise is an incredible chance of a lifetime," said Soto.

In the end, Jay finished as one of the top unsigned guitarists in the nation. A skilled vocalist as well, Soto had the honor of singing the “Star Spangled Banner" for a presidential rally in 2004 at Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona.

An album filled with memorable melodies and impeccable technique, his successful debut release, Long Time Coming, received outstanding reviews from critics across the nation and opened many doors for the young and rising star.

This self-produced debut caught the attention of producer greats Jeff Lorber and Paul Brown. Lorber and Brown would go on to produce his sophomore release, Stay Awhile. Other producers on the album include Darren Rahn (Wayman Tisdale, Jonathan Butler) and Mario Mendivil (Nelson Rangell). With the likes of Jeffrey Osborne and Michael Lington on his release, Soto is in star-studded company and sure to catch the attention of Smooth Jazz fans everywhere.
