Moods and Modes is thrilled to announce the release of the latest album by Aneta George and Martin Milcent Trio entitled Playground available on all platforms.

'When you listen with your heart, the whole world is your playground.'- this is the main message of the new studio album of Aneta George, a jazz/world music singer and composer. This project is a joint composing effort with the french pianist Martin Milcent, who brought the grooves and the harmonies to the project, matching perfectly with Aneta's melodies and lyrics, Iike a beautiful mosaic.

It's a jazz quartet structure; the specific illumination that the bassist Marius Gerin and drummer Elie Akkouche bring, adds warmth and playfulness to the overall sound of the album. 'We wanted to create jazz music, with pop approach, says Martin, the vertical structure and groove is jazz, but the form of the songs is pop, short, precise and with very little soloing'.

The other side of the album is odd rhythms and the Macedonian etno heritage that Aneta brings, which becomes something exotic and exciting to play for French musicians. 'In this album I wanted to sing about ordinary topics', says Aneta, 'like how's my day, my introvert side, something that fascinates me with other people, some patterns and behaviors. But through all that, my underlying message is that we need to listen with our hearts: to each other, to our selves, to the Universe.'

About Aneta George

Aneta George is born in Macedonia, in year 1982 (full name Aneta George Kacurkova). Her interest in music is of very young age, where she studied the harmonies of the Beatles songs, and composed her own songs. She was self taught, played tunes on the piano by ear and sang them.

Deeply influenced by Stevie Wonder and Boyz || Men, at age of 15, after getting very comfortable in songwriting, she started a vocal trio named PS- “Peeme Soul”, which in English means “We sing soul”. The trio consisted of three females, all teenagers. Shortly after their first song which was a soul ballad, they became very popular in Macedonia. They released several singles, took part of music festivals, as well as toured within the country. The activity of the trio lasted for five years. In the meantime, Aneta started working as a songwriter, arranger, and back up vocalist for other Macedonian and Albanian artists.

In year 2002, she moved to Greece to study computer science, where she entered a jazz bend as a lead vocal. For the next four years she explored and learned the jazz standards and harmonies, rehearsing intensely with the band, performing in the jazz bars of Thessaloniki.

After moving back to Macedonia, in 2007 she entered the jazz academy in a small town called Stip, with jazz piano as main instrument (the academy did not offer vocal studies). Since she did not have a proper piano training, she practiced the piano day and night for five years, learning and analysing the piano styles of Oscar Peterson, Bill Evans, Dave Brubeck and Thelonious Monk. In 2012, Aneta released her first solo project, a soul jazz/soul album with gospel and spiritual lyrics called “UniversaLove”, performing and promoting it in South Africa, Poland, Germany and the Balkans.

The following years are filled with studio work, songwriting for other artists, jazz gigs with her band, playing singing and writing music in several ensembles (classical/jazz duo called “Bas i Glas” with just vocal and double bass, all female Balkan Big Band called “New Sparkrs Jazz Orchestra”, female chamber choir “sv. Zlata Meglenska”).

In October 2015 she appeared as a vocal coach in the first music reality show in Macedonia called “Na ista adresa”. This experience inspired to get deeper into vocal coaching and music education.

Today Aneta lives and works in Paris, also part of the American School of Modern Music, training her vocal with the legendary Michelle Hendricks and Charles Turner.
