MARÍNA & MIKAEL is an Amsterdam based vocal/guitar duet. Both coming from Iceland and studying in Amsterdam, they decided to jam and from there, there was no turning back; They've been playing together since December 2014.
In January 2016 they started working on a project. The idea was to arrange jazz standards acoustically with the idea of them sounding like the duet had written them themselves. Mikael did most of the arranging while Marína wrote new lyrics for each song, in Icelandic. Together they settled on details and ended up with 8 ready-to-play arranged songs. Each song got a fresh perspective, a new story and a new sound.
After a very successful tour in Iceland during the summer of 2016, they went to a studio in Mosfellsbær, Iceland, called Sundlaugin (Sigurrós, Damien Rice..) and behold; their debut album, BEINT HEIM was released in August 2017.
The album Beint heim was nominated for the Icelandic Jazz Awards as album of the year 2017 in the Jazz & Blues category.
Nominated for the Icelandic Music Awards as album of the year 2017 in the Jazz & Blues category.
Album review: Marína og Mikael – Beint heim
A sincere and sweet album. Marína's beautiful and clear voice fits well with Mikael's colorful playing.

Mikael: Intimate, atmospheric, calm, enriching, are words that spring to mind when thinking of last nights
performance, shared with a full house at Björtuloft. Mikael Máni plays a Gibson ES 175 guitar and his playing flows
gently yet decisively along the lines of freedom and inspiration, on an undercurrent of tradition and craft. Last night
was about standards ( Icelandic and international ) with Icelandic lyrics but Mikael writes music, mainly instrumental
