Adam " A D " Johnson

Since growing up in the latter part of the Funk era, and through the Hip Hop era, in which it's based on, after listening to " The J.B's ", James Brown's Funk band that help birth Hip Hop Music, and also growing up during the resurgence of Bop Jazz in the 80's, that's almost my take on playing Bop Jazz, almost combining the two genres, ( Bop Jazz swing, with Funk / Hip Hop rhythms ), when possible.

I've spent many years mastering my craft in; The Music Conservatory of Westchester, in White Plains, NY, as well as in my internationally well-known drum school at; The Collective School of Music, ( The Drummer's Collective ), in lower Manhattan

Interested in continuing to swing and hit the studio with other Neo-Bop Jazz / Neo-Traditionalist aficionados in either a typical acoustic rhythm section; Pianist & Double Bassist, or substituting the Pianist with a Guitarist to make heads bop and feet tap, all over N.Y.C., when gigging or busking.

INFLUENCES

Philly Joe Jones with Miles' First Great Quintet, Ben Riley with Monk's Quartet, Louis Hayes with the Cannonball Adderley combos. Montez Coleman, with Roy Hargrove's Quintet, and of course, John " Jabo " Starks with James Brown's " J.B.'s ".

EQUIPMENT

My very minimal, pro-busking, Gretsch 3-Piece Catalina Club Jazz Mahogany Drum Kit ( 18" x 14" Kick, 14" x 5.5" Brooklyn Series Steel Snare, and my 14" x 14" Floor Tom ). My minimal Zildjian cymbal set-up, comprised of my 13" A Series New Beat Hi-Hat Pair, and my 20" FX Series Oriental Crash of Doom I use as my Ride.
