The love of jazz music and the great cooperation provided by Michael Ricci and his staff.

Interviews; festival reviews; concert reviews.

What is your musical background?

Longtime listener, self taught, at-home flute, clarinet, saxophonist.

What was the first record you bought that you would still listen to today?

Miles Davis's Kind of Blue

What type of jazz do you enjoy listening to the most?

Mainstream, but enjoy many sub-genres of jazz.

Aside from jazz, what styles of music do you enjoy?

Blues, good R&B, blues-based rock.

What are you listening to right now?

The new Jackie Byard-Tommy Flanagan duet release ( Tommy Flanagan / Jaki Byard: The Magic of 2 on Resonance Records)

What inspired you to write about jazz?

I've always been a writer, love jazz music, inspired to combine them by the works of Nat Hentoff, Ralph J. Gleason and Leonard Feather.

What do you like to do in your free time? Any hobbies?

Jazz clubs and concerts; read; shoot pool

What role does jazz music play in your life?

Inspires. A major "quality of life" thing.

How does writing about jazz contribute to the music itself?

Hopefully, brings attention to the artists and what makes them tick; brings attention to the best art form on the globe.

What do you like most about All About Jazz?

The best site to find out just about anything currently going on in the jazz community.

What positives have come from your association with All About Jazz?

Meeting the terrific people who make this music; true artists. Having valued friendships in the industry, musicians and non-musicians; and knowing the fine people who make All About Jazz work.
