Live in New York at Jazz Standard è un doppio CD che ribadisce le grandi qualità di leader, compositore e musicista, ancor prima che di formidabile batterista, di Antonio Sanchez. In scaletta otto brani ripresi nelle serate dal 2 al 5 ottobre 2008, dove il drummer messicano presenta sul palco del Jazz Standard di New York un quartetto delizioso, completato da Miguel Zenón, Scott Colley e David Sanchez.

Nel menù quasi tutti originali, che si dilungano per due ore di musica energica, multiforme, stratificata, con in aggiunta la rivisitazione di "H and H" di Pat Metheny, assoluta figura di riferimento per Sanchez, e due brani firmati dai saxofonisti: la sinuosa "Revelation" di Zenón e "The Forgotten Ones," brano evocativo e dalla struggente trama melodica del tenorista portoricano.

Soli vertiginosi che si susseguono senza flessioni, movimenti d'insieme capaci di trascinare grazie a una forte coesione tra gli interpreti, fanno di questa registrazione - tra l'altro catturata con dovizia di particolari - un'occasione unica per ascoltare senza opporre resistenza, fino a farsi stritolare da una morsa sonora di grandissima levatura.
