Carmen Lundy: Live at Madrid
Chi pensa che l'autoproduzione sia solo un modo di emergere da parte di musicisti poco noti resterà sorpreso dalle ultime tendenze: cantanti come Norah Jones e Carmen Lundy che per motivi loro decidono di seguire questa strada.

La cantante afroamericana ha decenni di carriera alle spalle e nel corso di questa si è sempre data ad un mainstream aggiornato con influenze elettriche scrivendo però da sola i brani e gli arrangiamenti, contribuendo così, grazie a canzoni particolarmente riuscite, ad allargare i confini di un genere che altrimenti rischierebbe di restare limitato a pochi ma famosi titoli, quelli che tutti vogliono ascoltare e che hanno avuto nel passato interpretazioni irripetibili.

Per la sua esibizione al teatro Madrid di Los Angeles ha scelto di fare le cose in grande con una band che comprende i musicisti che l'hanno accompagnata nelle ultime incisioni, compresi tre tastieristi e nella sezione fiati tre stars come Steve Turre, Mark Shim e Bobby Watson. Un lavoro che è una summa di quello fatto fino adesso comprendendo tutte le sue canzoni più importanti.

Padroneggia perfettamente gli aspetti tecnici del suo mestiere, dalla voce sicura ai testi agli arrangiamenti e pure l'entertainment con il pubblico ha la sua - divertente - parte, ad esempio in "Send Me Someone to Love", con la sua retorica domanda "Is anybody out there?" e l'affermazione che ancora oggi è sexy abbastanza: "Look at me now".

Lo show ha, per chi avesse dei dubbi, anche qualità artistiche, per il semplice motivo che un lavoro del genere non spunta per caso. Jazz, un pò di soul, un uso raffinato e moderato degli strumenti elettrici, la grande voce, tutto contribuisce a fare di questo lavoro un insieme cesellato e preparato con attenzione a cui è difficile aggiungere nuovi tasselli.

Carmen Lundy ha scelto di gettare uno sguardo indietro a tutto quello che ha scritto e fatto fino adesso. La sua esibizione diventa così un omaggio a trenta anni di carriera ad altissimo livello.
