Enrico Zanisi Trio: Life Variations
Fatta eccezione per "In the Wee Small Hour of the Morning" di David A. Mann l'album Life Variations contiene solo originali firmati da Enrico Zanisi, leader di un interessante trio completato da Alessandro Paternesi alla batteria e dal contrabbassista Joe Rehemer.

Il lavoro fa parte della serie CAM Jazz Presents, con la quale l'etichetta italiana cerca di portare all'attenzione del pubblico nuovi talenti, come questo giovane pianista romano. Forte di un tocco cristallino e di un grande equilibrio compositivo, Zanisi trova il suo punto di maggiore attrazione nell'utilizzo degli spazi sonori, che risultano ora briosi e dalle melodie orecchiabili, come in "Spread," ma anche - e soprattutto - sospesi su un filo esile di profondità espressiva, come nella splendida "Lied". La sua è una scrittura che non si dilunga mai troppo negli argomenti proposti, cosicché l'album ne risente in termini di leggerezza e fruibilità, anche quando le atmosfere si fanno serie e velate di grigio, come in "Inno" o nella successiva "Il popolo sovrano". A più riprese affiora l'impostazione classica del leader, il quale sembra ricercare la bellezza formale in maniera molto spontanea, e in alcuni casi riesce anche a prendersi meno in parola, come nella fantasiosa "Carosello/Troppo scuro".

Nel complesso il carattere di Life Variations porta in mente scenari autunnali, di una musica che sa emozionore per via della sua semplicità, del suo modo intelligente di comunicare sensazioni alte senza ricorrere a inutili sovrastrutture.
