Charlie Hunter Trio: Let the Bells Ring On
Pur avendo incrociato i loro destini nel corso degli ultimi vent'anni, in diversi contesti e con diverse formazioni è la prima volta in assoluto che Charlie Hunter, Bobby Previte e Curtis Fowlkes entrano in studio di registrazione per incidere un disco come trio. Dieci brani originali a nome del chitarrista, durata media quattro minuti, tempo perfetto per raccontare senza inutili lungaggini, per mettere a fuoco immagini ed emozioni, per lasciare il segno con un suono che diventa il valore aggiunto dell'incisione. E Let the Bells Ring On è servito.

La combinazione tra l'eclettica chitarra a sette corde del leader, la batteria esuberante di Previte ed il trombone soul di Fowlkes si rivela (con)vincente fin dal brano d'apertura. L'atmosfera alimentata dal beat ipnotico, la tensione che si viene a creare con minimi slittamenti, appropriate distorsioni timbriche, si apre improvvisamente ad una liberatoria melodia per poi ritornare con naturalezza alle inquietanti luci notturne dell'inizio.

Il gioco al ribasso scelto dal trio riguardo i virtuosismi, l'attenzione verso l'impatto sonoro del proprio strumento nella trama di relazioni reciproche, la scrittura di Hunter capace di approcciare moods disparati senza snaturare l'unitarietà e l'originalità dell'approccio, dà ottimi risultati. Let the Bells Ring con la sua miscela di indolenti blues, di morbide ballads, di falsi rockabilly, di groove energici e di riff accattivanti risulta così album di impatto immediato ed in grado di essere apprezzato da un pubblico trasversale.
