Otto standard che più standard non si può ed un classico piano trio che più classico non si può.

C'è di che mandare in solluchero gli amanti del cosiddetto mainstream e al contrario far arricciare il naso chi cerca nuove visioni e prospettive di una musica per antonomasia contaminata ed in perenne evoluzione. Ma c'è anche chi più semplicemente si predispone con orecchie aperte e senza pregiudizi all'ascolto della musica. E quella contenuta in Lazy Afternoon è buona musica. Marcello Tonolo è un signore del jazz italiano e, con la classe e l'eleganza che lo contraddistinguono, affronta temi carichi di storia e di altrettante infinite interpretazioni.

Tonolo sa benissimo che per dar loro nuova luce non basta un'operazione di lifting musicale, un ritocchino alla melodia qui, un cambio di ritmo là, una variazione armonica qua e là. Ma occorre entrare in confidenza con quelle composizioni, capirne la natura profonda, portare in superficie emozioni, ricordi, sentimenti e rielaborarli secondo la propria sensibilità, la propria storia, la propria fantasia.. Ed è quello che il pianista miranese, qui accompagnato dal giovane contrabbassista Marco Privato e dal rodato batterista statunitense, trapiantato a Padova, Jimmy Weinstein, profonde a piene mani in Lazy Afternoon.
