Restless, agile, but with a steady course: this is how one could describe the malamute, the Alaskan sledge dog, and this description is also appropriate for the eponymous New York band lead by drummer Jim Black and featuring Oskar Gudjonsson on tenor saxophone, Elias Stemeseder on keyboards and Chris Tordini on bass. The four musicians cannot be pinned down to one genre. Together they create a unique style with seemingly incompatible elements: warm-blooded tenor sax, jumpy keyboards and propulsive bass and drum grooves.
I love jazz because it has allowed me to find my own voice.
I was first exposed to jazz as a child through my parents.
The best show I ever attended was Cassandra Wilson and Dianne Reeves. AMAZING!!!
The first jazz record I bought was Carmen Sings Monk.
My advice to new listeners is to listen with your heart and feel with your experiences.
