Thomas Larcher – Rosamunde Quartett: IXXU
Comporre musica per quartetto d’archi è cosa ardua e faticosa, non tanto perché la letteratura su e per questa formazione è davvero tanta, quanto piuttosto per il fatto che è difficile uscire dagli schemi dei grandi maestri (che inevitabilmente condizionano il comporre e poi anche l'interpretare, facendosi sentire come ingombranti simulacri), e proporre nel panorama contemporaneo qualcosa che sia percepito come nuovo.

È stato bravo il giovane compositore e interprete Thomas Larcher perché smentisce le perplessità a riguardo presentando una prima, interessante, raccolta di pezzi per quartetto d’archi e ‘aggiunte’ nella ECM New Series. Bravo Larcher perché propone quattro bei pezzi che, senza essere folgoranti, colgono il giusto equilibrio stilistico e compositivo tra passato e presente; bravo perché l’interpretazione, affidata al Rosamunde Quartett e allo stesso al piano, è fresca e mai plumbea (come di solito capita di sentire), e tiene fede una certa idea di contemporaneità senza tuttavia esserne troppo smaccatamente sopraffatto.

Di particolare interesse è l’interpretazione del soprano Andrea Lawren Brown che altera con una leggera aria di follia il lungo “My Illness Is The Medicine I Need” trasformandolo in una sorta di mattoide andante espressivo. Larcher non può che interpretare al meglio se stesso in “Mumien” e “Cold Farmer”, di cui il primo è forse il pezzo più interessante.
