Cinzia Spata: Into the Moment
Sul versante del canto jazz femminile, rispetto alla moltitudine d'interpreti che puntano più sul glamour che sulle doti, ogni tanto appare un disco di valore. Che la protagonista sia Cinzia Spata non è affatto una sorpresa, anche se le occasioni per ascoltarla qui in Italia non sono molte ed i suoi dischi sono pochi. L'ultimo risale al 2003 (93-03, Azzurra) inciso come questo negli Stati Uniti dove la cantante palermitana ha studiato e soggiornato a lungo. Come allora l'accompagnano strumentisti di prima grandezza e Cinzia interagisce alla pari: è una delle poche a potersi confrontare coi colleghi sul piano strumentale, senza richiedere una session confezionata sulle proprie esigenze ma interagendo in piena parità. E' tra le poche a comporre, a scrivere gli arrangiamenti dei suoi brani ed imprimere il segno della propria personalità a risaputi standard. Bravissima nel canto scat, Cinzia preferisce brani dinamici e swinganti che affronta con genuino groove ma sa rendere credibili anche ballad come "Soul Eyes," "Falling Grace" o "East Of The Sun".

In questo lavoro, inciso a New York nel dicembre 2009, troviamo la cantante affiancata da artisti come Bruce Barth, George Garzone e Ken Cervenka in un gruppo affiatato e ricco di brio. La scelta dei pezzi in repertorio conferma quanto dicevamo poco sopra: sono brani che affronterebbe un gruppo solo strumentale, come "My Favourite Things," "Duke Ellington's Sound Of Love" di Mingus, "The Glide" di Towner o "The Widow In The Window" di Wheeler, uno dei suoi modelli preferiti. Per alcuni di essi Cinzia ha scritto le parole e in tutte presenta versioni variopinte, con duttile definizione espressiva ed eloquente immaginazione musicale. Un canto che sa essere anche acrobatico ("Carlos" è un pezzo di bravura smagliante) ma non cerca mai l'ostentazione.

Le esecuzioni sono tutte molto belle, intense e affascinanti. Da non perdere.
