Clare Fischer Latin Jazz Big Band: Intenso!
Il pianista, compositore e arrangiatore Clare Fischer scomparso nel 2012, resta uno dei grandi sottovalutati del jazz e questo splendido disco, prodotto dal figlio Brent, ce lo ricorda.

Il suo multiforme talento espresso nel mondo della musica latina e nel pop, lo ha portatto a undici Grammy Nominations (con due vittorie postume) ma ha fatto dimenticare altri suoi meriti artistici: negli anni cinquanta è stato un innovativo pianista (in trio con Gary Peacock) e arrangiatore (per Donald Byrd e Dizzy Gillespie), ha collaborato a lungo con Cal Tjader nei Sessanta, diretto numerose formazioni latine nei decenni successivi, sperimentato le tastiere elettroniche, scritto arrangiamenti per Joao Gilberto e per artisti rock come Prince, Celin Dion, Robert Palmer o Paul McCartney. Il suo interesse per il latin jazz è stato costante e lo status acquisito in quest'ambito resta enorme.

Brent Fischer in questo album guida una scintillante big band latina ricca di pregevoli nomi (tra cui una splendida Roberta Gambarini, il trombettista Carl Saunders e la percussionista Sheila E) dirigendo alcune notevoli partiture del padre, in cui include suo`i interventi pre-registrati alle tastiere.
Il percorso musicale si apre con "Algo Bueno" che vede protagonisti il sassofonista Don Shelton e il percussionista Kevin Ricard. Segue "Gaviota" il primo dei due brani interpretati dalla Gambarini (il secondo è "Butterfly Samba") con esemplari parti in scat e continua spaziando tra famosi classici come "La Mocura," l'ellingtoniano "Rockin' in Rhythm" o il seducente "Tres Palabras." Tra le composizioni di Clare Fischer spiccano "O Canto" (un emozionante intervento del trombettista Carl Saunders più un innesto registrato di Clare che canta scat) e "Solar Patrol" con la vivace esibizione di Sheila E.
