Jimi Tenor - Tony Allen: Inspiration / Information 4

Sgombriamo subito il campo da dubbi: l'idea alla base della serie Inspiration/Information della Strut è furbetta e forse anche prevedibile, ma intanto si mantiene sempre su buoni livelli e in qualche caso - vedasi l'abbinata tra Mulatu Astatque e gli Heliocentrics - decisamente azzeccata. La cosa funziona bene anche nell'incontro, geograficamente un po' bislacco, ma stilisticamente piuttosto naturale, tra l'astro-funk finlandese di Jimi Tenor e il drumming afro-global di Tony Allen [da Fela Kuti a Damon Albarn senza passare dal via!].

Nel variegato percorso di Tenor, la fascinazione afro-beat è al centro dei lavori degli ultimi anni, a fianco dei Kabu-Kabu (in Joystone) e gli risulta quindi piuttosto facile farsi cullare dai ritmi di Allen, approfittando, con la consueta dose di follia che gli conosciamo, per contagiare con tocco alieno il compagno di avventure.

Ne viene così fuori un lavoro che seppure privo di idee particolarmente nuove, è godibile e vario dal primo all'ultimo minuto, tra ipnosi afro-beat e la leggerezza dub di una "Selfish Gene," il flauto sensuale di "Mama England" e i fiati incalzanti di "Got My Egusi". Tra echi di una Lagos postmoderna e vecchi giradischi con la puntina che gira sugli anelli di Saturno, ci si diverte!
