Nuove eruzioni dal vulcanico batterista britannico Martin France, alla guida degli Spin Marvel. Il musicista già ascoltato al fianco di Django Bates, Evan Parker, Kenny Wheeler, Lee Konitz, Dave Holland, Arild Andersen, e Ralph Towner firma quest'anno un nuovo capitolo della sua storia musicale lanciando per RareNoiseRecords Infolding, affascinante e acido sbocco musicale che al jazz addiziona robuste dosi di elettronica, rumorismo post-industriale, e derive che pongono questo album, composto da sei diluitissimi brani, su un terreno spesso assimilabile alla pura sperimentazione sonora.

Una scelta consapevole e testimoniata anche dalla presenza del sound designer Terje Evensen (la definizione è sua), oltre che da Tim Harries (Earthworks), dal produttore e batterista Emre Ramazanoglu e dal trombettista Nils Petter Molvaer.

Tinte acide, panorami lisergici, nervosismi acustici che rimandano a certe decomposizioni anni Settanta, comuni non solo al jazz ma anche a un certo filone rock, sono la marca più caratteristica di Infolding, album che vive anche nel contrasto fra episodi accessibili ed estremismi musicali aspri e che richiedono più di uno sforzo per farsi apprezzare.

Sforzo reciproco, in ogni caso, tanto per gli ascoltatori quanto per i musicisti in studio, stavolta impegnati in un disco-progetto che tenta di abbattere definitivamente il confine fra registrazione e live. Il nucleo di Infolding è infatti costituito da registrazioni in larga parte improvvisate realizzate per la radio BBC.
