Un trio felicemente strutturato, a nome collettivo ma il cui nume tutelare appare senz'altro Ziv Taubenfeld, autore di tutto il materiale proposto, ci si rivela in questo bel lavoro, fresco di stampa per i tipi della Leo Records. A differenza di una generosa fetta produttiva della casa russo-londinese, infatti, qui le strutture espositive sono ben presenti e avvertibili, con dinamiche piuttosto marcate e conseguente logica inclinazione a non perdersi in troppi fronzoli.

Si parte su temperature piuttosto magre, col contrabbasso archettato e la batteria toccata con le mazze felpate. L'impressione è che si tenda ad allungare un po' troppo la minestra, ma già il secondo brano guadagna invece una bella vitalità (peraltro non univoca, il che non è certo un difetto), che si allarga di fatto ai due episodi successivi.

Il tono si fa poi più nervoso in "Snail Hunting" e nel più ampio "No Name Letters," peraltro intriso di una maggiore pastosità e pacatezza nel solo di contrabbasso che ne caratterizza lo sviluppo. La libertà sorvegliata di "Orange Shoes" aggiunge un tassello in più nell'equilibrio che il disco mostra sempre più chiaramente di possedere, grazie anche a un bel suono d'assieme e relativo interplay, ribadito nel brano di commiato, aperto dal solo contrabbasso e svolto poi collegialmente su temperature pensose che si fanno a tratti lacerate appena prima della fine.

Oltre all'occasione di incontrare un trio il cui vertice sia costituito da un clarinetto basso, fatto tutt'altro che usuale, un ascolto, quindi, degno di grande attenzione. Anche per gli sviluppi che potrebbe regalarci.
