Tri-O & Sainkho: Forgotten Streets of St. Petersburg

Dopo vent’anni Tri-O - formazione di punta dell’avanguardia jazz russa composta da Sergey Letov (sassofono baritono e soprano, clarinetto basso e flauto), Alexandr Alexandrov (fagotto, fischietti) e Yury Partenov (tromba, corno) - torna a riunirsi insieme alla cantante tuvina Sainkho Namchylak. Forgotten Streets of St. Petersburg è il CD uscito per la Leo Records, che, nonostante sia targato 2006 propone una registrazione del 1998 che ne celebra il ventesimo anniversario [per i suoi numerosi cambiamenti, di strumentazione e personalità coinvolte, si legga l’intervista di Letov].

Il Tri-O che si ascolta in questa registrazione sprigiona grande energia e profondità e propone una musica acuta, intensa, esplosiva. Le quindici tracce ricostruiscono (anche dai titoli) una sorta di topografia immaginaria di San Pietroburgo, città romantica, città tragica, città misteriosa, incrociando la topografia dello spazio a quella umana del Tri-O.

Alle tre, ben distinte, linee improvvisative di Letov, Partenov e Alexandrov si affianca quella della Sainkho, straordinaria vocalist di Tuva [regione buddista della Siberia orientale] dalle sorprendenti doti e dalla personalità. Coinvolta in svariati e interessantissimi progetti dai più importanti improvvisatori americani ed europei, accompagna qui il Tri-O conferendo un valore aggiunto (e un femmineo senso di armonia) alle scatenate tre voci “soliste” improvvisative.

Forgotten Streets of St. Petersburg proietta l’ascoltatore in un’altra e alta geografia sonora. Apre ad una modalità di fare e vivere l’improvvisazione di grande interesse, solida, aggressiva a tratti, mai semplice, un po’ romantica, tragica e misteriosa come la città a cui si ispira.
