I hope you can help me. I am looking for, in any form, music by Richard Groove Holmes entitled ‘Onsaya Joy,’ which is the title cut on an album which was released between 1971-1973. It was released on the Flying Dutchman label, for which some of songs was recorded live. I have searched and searched but, no one has it. If you can find it, I am willing to pay whatever it takes to get it, no matter if it is on a cassette!! PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS ALBUM!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME!!

Thomas:

It took a little while, but I discovered two dealers at gemm.com who have it available for sale on LP. I don't believe it has ever appeared on CD.

I am looking for an old Jazz Crusaders album; ‘The Festival Album.’ Mine was on the floor and I stepped on it about a year ago. It's a JC performance at the Atlantic and Newport Jazz Festivals circa 1967. It has dynamic performances of "The Freedom Sound" and "The Young Rabbits." Any help at all will be appreciated. Thanks.

Ron:

This hard to find LP is listed for sale by one gemm.com dealer for $36. It's the only place I've found it after 8 months of searching.

Where can I purchase Gary Bartz`s CD 'There Goes the Neighborhood?'

Edward:

It's surprising that this fairly recent but out of print CD didn't turn up among my usual sources. But two different gemm.com dealers list is available for sale.

I’ve been trying to find Charles Mingus’ LP set Music Written for Monterey, not the one reissued by Fantasy Records, but the later recording made at UCLA. Any ideas where to look?

Al:

I bought a copy of it myself recently, though I found out that I paid far too much. This album was originally only available by mail order and it was out of print when Mingus discovered the masters had been discarded by the company who pressed the records.

After seeing it listed for $250 by a dealer I’ve done a lot of business with, I thought I did well to get one in better condition at around $120 on ebay. Much to my dismay, I found out my album was a reissue put together by Sue Mingus and Fred Cohen from a mint copy of the original, and during my recent trip to New York City for IAJE, I visited Fred’s shop (Jazz Record Center) and learned he still has several sealed copies of the reissue priced at $40 each. Write him at [email protected] if you’re interested.

When I was an undergraduate student in California, we used to hear the very good Jazz singer David Allyn on the FM Radio, and I do remember that he came out with at least two record albums (maybe on Pacific Jazz records)...several years ago a friend and I went to see him live at a small club in New York City, and he was very good (near great); he told us between sets that he was based in Minneapolis. Have you seen any of his albums or CD's?

Vic:

Euclid Records (euclidrecords.com) has several Discovery LP titles by the singer in stock, including:

I Only Have Eyes For You
Sings Jerome Kern
Yours Sincerely

There’s also an in-print Audiophile CD available through George Buck’s Collector’s Record Club (jazzology.com) called ‘Soft As Spring.’ I haven’t found a source for the Xanadu LP ‘Don’t Look Back,’ which consists of duets with Barry Harris. ‘Sure Thing,” another LP which I’ve been unable to locate, was issued by World Pacific (as was the album ‘Yours Sincerely’).

Tom wrote:

Let me know if you come across a copy of Pat Martino ‘Head And Heart’ on CD (32Jazz) for a good price. Some seller was trying to sell it for $99; that's way too much.

I have another title for you to search for. It is Houston Person 'Lost And Found,' also on 32 Jazz Thanks again.

Tom:

One gemm.com dealer has Martino’s ‘Head and Heart’ listed for $21.56, but his/her customer rating is pretty low, so he may not be good at actually filling orders.

Several dealers at gemm.com have the out of print Houston Person CD, starting at $11 plus shipping.

Al wrote:

I have the entire Maybeck Recital Hall Series except Denny Zeitlin Vol. 27 & Sir Roland Hanna Vol. 32. I keep searching the web to no avail. Any ideas as to where I might find those two?

Al:

I found one gemm.com dealer selling the Zeitlin CD for $28.75, but he/she has a low customer rating. Keep looking as that price seems too high to me.

Hank Shteamer from New York, NY wrote:

I'm trying to locate two releases by the vibraphonist Walt Dickerson entitled 'Tell Us Only the Beautiful Things' and 'Walt Dickerson 1976.' Either CD or LP is fine. Thanks.

Hank:

One dealer at gemm.com has a Japanese edition of 'Walt Dickerson 1976' listed for $28.75.
