Iana: D’une extrême à l’autre
Quattro brevi brani in studio (entro i tre minuti e mezzo) e poi invece un'unica cavalcata live al festival di Donaueschingen di quasi tre quarti d'ora, il tutto partorito fra il 18 e il 21 ottobre 2017, compongono questo album delle pianiste riunite nel duo Iana, l'una, Christine Wodrascka, slavo-provenzale poco più che sessantenne, già nota per alcune belle prove in particolare per i tipi della Leo, l'altra, Betty Hovette, partita come interprete classico-contemporanea poi apertasi alla pratica improvvisativa (su basi non necessariamente jazzistiche).

I brani brevi hanno strutture—se così possiamo definirle—tipiche dell'improvvisazione senza rete, ascendendo nei momenti più vivi (in particolare in "Tâ born") a risultati anche apprezzabili, mentre un discorso ben diverso riguarda la lunga sequenza live, divisa fra smisurate iterazioni ipnotico-ossessive, anfratti di silenzio più o meno totale e improvvise (quanto decisamente episodiche) esplosioni. Visto che dei tre percorsi appena descritti il primo è quello che prevale largamente, una noia abbastanza letale ha la meglio sull'ascoltatore (anche ben disposto) quando si è ancora ben lontani dalla meta. Come sempre dal vivo l'impatto visivo può senz'altro aver dato fiato alle trombe delle due performers (in realtà non ci giureremmo), ma così il tutto si rivela decisamente indigesto.

Entrambe possono fare certo di meglio.
