Rara formula quella del duo pianoforte-tuba!

La propongono, con successo, Patrick Bebelaar e Michel Godard (quest'ultimo anche al serpente e al basso elettrico in qualche traccia..), sentendosi liberi di affrontare materiale eterogeneo, più come esercizio di stile dunque che con una forte idea programmatica.

Dedications è un disco dal quale traspare la maestosità della lezione di Godard, pulitissimo e agile in ogni contesto. Bebelaar ricama al piano con tecniche più ortodosse, che vanno dal melodismo più accattivante a sottili giochi armonici sempre di immediata leggibilità.

Le conversazioni sono aperte a tutto: possono indugiare alla riflessione pacata, di passo breve (la nota "Archangelika" di Godard, oppure "Philtre"); oppure sfidare la reciproca destrezza strumentale come in "Keep at It," il brano più squisitamente jazzistico che tesse unisoni boppistici alla libertà dell'improvvisazione.

La delicatezza, il gusto per l'equilibrio e la mancanza di increspature illuminano "Kiwus," altro banco di prova mirabile per il serpente di Godard, mentre l'unico standard è il monkiano "'Round Midnight," legato in una strana medley ad un'altra composizione. Musiche rasserenanti, di notevole levatura tecnica.
