Térez Montcalm: Connection
Térez Montcalm è una cantante e musicista canadese attiva dal 1994 che con Connection, quinto album pubblicato dall'esordio, firma una sorta di accorato omaggio alla musica preferita di ieri e di oggi. L'anima di Térez, dal punto di vista musicale, guarda al filone acustico, melodicamente è orientata a musiche strettamente imparentate col migliore pop e rock, mentre se proprio vogliamo trovare un riferimento vocale, Janis Joplin (con qualche ammodernamento alla Ani Di Franco soprattutto negli episodi più funk) non pare fuori luogo.

Connection non è un album jazz, piuttosto un disco che attraversa molti generi (e, pertanto, anche il jazz) e molti autori. La felice esperienza di Voodoo, datata 2007, deve aver spinto la cantante del Quebec a proseguire la strada degli omaggi - qui troviamo per esempio "Where the Streets Have No Name" degli U2, "C'Est Magnifique" di Cole Porter, "C'Est Extra" di Léo Ferré e persino "E Penso A Te" del nostro Battisti - interpretando il tutto con corde acustiche e con un gusto quasi sempre orientato a certi sapori jazz ampiamente assimilati dalla musica commerciale. A queste canzoni si aggiungono una manciata di brani originali a testimoniare l'ottimo stato di salute artistica di Térez. Speriamo di ritrovare la cantante molto presto con una prova interamente composta da inediti.

In tempi di crooner dalle fattezze di bambolotti spacciati per i nuovi Sinatra e primedonne impegnate a convincere tutti quanti che Nina Simone vive e lotta con noi, consideriamo dischi come Connection boccate d'aria fresca per tutto quel pop 'di confine' che resiste alla banalità senza per questo annullare le proprie potenzialità attrattive nei confronti del grande pubblico.
