Trio Braam-DeJoode-Vatcher: Change This Song
Un trio piano-contrabbasso-batteria, tradizionale nella forma, molto meno nei contenuti. Il gusto anagrammatico che traspare nei titoli dei brani è ancora più evidente nella musica. Frammentaria, di chiara matrice olandese e BimHuis in particolare, dove tutto è accennato e poco è davvero compiuto ed ancora meno ridondante.
Dopo un avvio stentato, a nostro avviso troppo tradizionale per essere convincente, il CD prende quota. Tra Thelonious Monk e Misha Mengelberg, con il jazz come una delle tante possibilità. La più usata e frequentata, ma certo non la sola. Ironia e disincanto. Leggerezza e quasi distacco. Musica seria, ma che non si prende mai sul serio.
Piccola nota a margine: sul retro di copertina c'è una fotografia del palco della BimHuis, con lo spettacolare colpo d'occhio retrostante, su Amsterdam e sulle sue luci. Chissà se nella mia città (Milano) il jazz riuscirà mai ad avere un posto simile!
