Frank Catalano dev'essere stufo dell'etichetta di "giovane prodigio." Alla soglia dei 40 anni con una carriera ventennale, il musicista di Chicago ha tutte le carte in regola per essere considerato un esponente di punta tra i sassofonisti Rhythm & Blues, i cosiddetti honkers. Ha esordito a 17 anni con l'organista Charles Earland, l'anno seguente era già in tour con Carlos Santana e in quello successivo firmava il primo disco da leader con la Delmark.

Da allora le sue collaborazioni entro e fuori il jazz non si contano: da Clark Terry, Randy Brecker, Arturo Sandoval, John Medeski fino a Beyoncé e John Legend.

In questo disco Catalano rivolge il suo tributo ai maestri Eddie Harris e Von Freeman, grandi tenoristi di Chicago e riprende la classica formula dell'Hammond quartet, in sodalizio con Nir Felder alla chitarra e l'ex batterista degli Smashing Pumpkins, Jimmy Chamberlain, più David Sanborn ospite in un paio di brani.
La musica risponde in pieno alle attese, restando saldamente ancorata alla tradizione e agli stilemi più rappresentativi del genere. Spazia da concitati brani d'impronta funk ("Chicago Eddie," "Shakin") alle immancabili incursioni nel blues: dal vibrante "Sugar," al classico davisiano "All Blues." Ed ancora la classica ballad ("At Last") che Catalano sviluppa con lungo fervido assolo. Non c'è molto altro da aggiungere. David Sanborn aggiunge ottimi interventi in "Bye Bye Blackbird" e "Sugar" mentre Nir Felder sviluppa il suo estro in "Shakin."
