Nancy Kelly è stata scelta due volte di fila come cantante dell'anno dal pubblico che legge Down Beat, niente male per una che si produce da sola le proprie incisioni!

Con il suo enorme senso dello swing affronta una serie di standards che suonano freschi e pimpanti. Le sue doti vocali sono indubbie ed il gruppo che l'accompagna è perfettamente sintonizzato sul genere: Houston Pearson suona veramente per lei, quasi una seconda voce melodica che ha una sensibilità ed uno swing tale da amalgamarsi perfettamente con la materia vocale. Anche il trio ritmico, che ruota attorno al pianista Dino Losito, ha swing e coesione da vendere e così si ha un quadro preciso di quello che questa cantante offre al pubblico: niente di nuovo (Anita O'Day, Peggy Lee sono tra i suoi punti di riferimento), ma fatto con una sensibilità ed un gusto notevoli e nessuna concorrenza con le giovani ragazze che affrontano il repertorio dell'American Song Book.

Quello della Kelly è un mainstream/swing reso nel migliore dei modi, e che, quindi, risulta assai pregevole per l'intensità esecutiva.

Non è facile indicare segnalare un brano in particolare, ma "Like Someone in Love", eseguita al piano elettrico con un ritmo di bossa è fra i brani che dovrebbero convincere anche gli ascoltatori meno teneri con questo genere musicale. "New York State of Mind" è una canzone che la Kelly ha cominciato ad eseguire subito dopo l'attentato alle torri gemelle ed è una ballad con cui rende omaggio alla città e che da allora in poi non è più mancata nei suoi concerti.
