Carlos Bica & Azul: Azul in Ljubljana

Azul è una storica formazione del contrabbassista portoghese Carlos Bica che riunisce musicisti dalle personalità e dal background decisamente variegati. Il leader ha lavorato per diversi anni con la vocalist Maria Joao vanta studi al Berklee College of Music e collaborazioni eccellenti con Han Bennink, Ray Anderson, Karl Berger, e Jim Black, bé, non ha bisogno di presentazioni avendo attraversato in lungo e in largo la musica che conta al di qua e al di là dell'oceano.

Ebbene, un po' a sorpresa vista anche la dimensione live, Azul in Lubjana si presenta come una tranquilla rimpatriata tra vecchi amici, un'intima conversazione dove la narrazione procede pacata, in estremo relax. Buona parte dell'esibizione richiama atmosfere friselliane, melodie accattivanti sostenute da fremiti rock, la chitarra a pennellare paesaggi con note lunghe e sospese, il contrabbasso di Bica ad ancorare solidamente i brani alla forma canzone e la batteria di Black leggera e delicata a sostenere il tutto. Uniche eccezioni i due minuti frenetici di "Deixa pra là," e la conclusiva "P-beat," chitarra con effetti vintage e refrain da canticchiare sotto la doccia.
